Baby, It's Cold Outside!

Souvenir de la Malmaison ~ one of my old roses. This rose was one of 200 collected for Empress Josephine Bonaparte's garden at her chateau Malmaison.

We're finally getting our cold weather
in Southern California!

With winter's cold snap
bringing freezing temperatures
up and down California,
it's nice to see that California is finally getting
a good amount of rain and snow this year!
Lakes and reservoirs water-levels
are coming up.
Thank you, Lord!
:)

This is the EID reservoir in Auburn, CA ~ Thanksgiving time 2014.

I thought you might like to see our home in its
usual winter finery!

The orange tree produced a fairly good crop
of sweet tangerines this year
even with the terrible drought
these past three years.

I hand-water it along with most of the potted plants
all year long and it gets
buckets of rain water
once we do get rain!
(we collect rain water off of our roof's eaves)
Happily,
we are getting "near normal" rain this winter.
:)

Though tinged pink, this is a white rose

my favorite pink geranium!

These three, above, are recent photos
from out front on the patio.
Our side yard near the birch tree
has pink and red geraniums growing along the fence.
One year I put some cuttings in a pot.
This large pot contains those cuttings!

The two photos, below in this collage,
are from last winter sharing our garden lady and backyard angel.
I love how winter's light
makes plants' colors stand out more!
I like, too, how the garden statue really stands out.

I'll be back out in the yard cutting down roses again
these next few weeks.
I find it kind of sad but so necessary
to bring down the roses every year.
One year I didn't do it,
and they didn't bloom well,
so it has to be done.

I'll do a post on just roses soon.
Hope you've enjoyed
the winter garden tour!
